Merchandising, buying, and product development organizations

This group of organizations evolved from companies that were once known as resiĀ­dent buying offices. These began as a paid service for retailers to help them locate deĀ­sirable goods in the market. They played an equally important but unpaid service for manufacturers by bringing their merchandise to the attention of retailers when it met their needs and standards.

Buying office functions include

  • Reporting market information
  • Acting as a representative of its client stores
  • Performing related services for its retail clients.
  • Product development through private label
