Functions of the trainer for successful training

  • Situation Environment Appraisal: The purpose of this function is to understand the current situation. The trainer can use PRA tools, Interviews, Group discussions, Impact reports, Professional and Personal performance appraisal to understand the existing environment of the trainee in which he/she is functioning.
  • Accomplishment Gap Analysis: To identify the gap between what is and what ought to be, the trainer should compile the data collected through above methods and means and analyze the same.
  • Training Need Analysis: Diagnosis of knowledge, skill and attitude domains that are to be changed to fill the gap is to be done. The trainer can make Domain-Inquisition matrix.
    Ex:
    The Anganwadi workers should monitor the growth of children in their area with the participation of mothers.

  • Forecast Statement: Identification of overt (external) and covert (internal) indicators and parameters to measure the impact of training should be done.
  • Objective setting: To attain indicators and the parameters, inputs and learning outcomes should be clearly written and objectives are to be set.
  • Content Development and Delivery system: Training material should be prepared based on the objectives. It involves the following aspects.
    • Preparation of course outline,
    • Identification of topics,
    • Collection of relevant subject matter and technological inputs
    • Procurement of resources- men and materials
    • Programme schedule
    • Preparation of and execution of Pre-test and pot test instruments
    • Concurrent evaluation instruments
  • Objective Training: objective training means giving inputs in accordance with objectives that are intended. To achieve this the trainer should undertake the following activities.
    • Lesson planning
    • Training methodology and equipment
    • Measurement of initial and final domains
    • Conducting training sessions
    • Monitoring the degree of objective achievement
