Central and State Laws for the Welfare of Women

To uphold the Constitutional mandate the States have has enacted various legislative measures intended to ensure equal rights to counter social discrimination and various forms of violence and atrocities and to provide support services to women. Although all laws are not gender specific, the provisions of law affecting women significantly have been reviewed periodically and amendments carried out to keep pace with the emerging requirements. These can be sub-divided as follows:

  3. Vulnerable Women (Tribals Dalits Sex Workers Devadasis Women-headed households)
  4. Labour
  5. Property
  6. Girl Children and Adolescent girls
  7. Marriage and Divorce
  8. Custody and Maintenance of Children
  9. Adoption and Guardianship
  10. Crimes against Women
