2.1.3 Nature of Major molecules

The four main classes of molecules present in food are carbohydrates, lipids, protein, and nucleic acids. These molecules are called macromolecules  or  polymers. They are made up of small micromolecules, called monomers that are linked to form these polymers. Monomers are linked together to synthesize a biological polymer by enzyme catalysed reactions.
