Calculation of volume - Problem 3
Unit 6- Calculation of area and volume
Calculation of volume
Calculation of volume of regular surfaces
Problems
Calculation of quantity of soil required for construction of dyke.
3) An embankment is 6 m wide at the bottom with side slope 1:1. Assuming the ground is level in the direction of transverse. Calculate the volume of earth work required to construct an embankment, if the length and breadth of the embankment are 125 m and 3 m.
b =3m Slope = 1:1
Bottom width = 6 m.
So the height of the embankment is 1.5 m
Area of the embankment A = h/2 (a + b)
= 1.5/2 (3+6) = 6.75m2
Or
A = BY+KY2=3 x1.5+1.5x1.52=6.75m2
Volume of earth required = V = A x L
=6.75 x 125= 843.75m3
b =3m Slope = 1:1
Bottom width = 6 m.
So the height of the embankment is 1.5 m
Area of the embankment A = h/2 (a + b)
= 1.5/2 (3+6) = 6.75m2
Or
A = BY+KY2=3 x1.5+1.5x1.52=6.75m2
Volume of earth required = V = A x L
=6.75 x 125= 843.75m3
