Unit 18 - Feed Management
18.3.3.Feeding Tables
In contrast to the situation in fish, shrimp feed pellet size is not related to the mouth size of the shrimp. Shrimp physically break up pellets prior to ingestion. The pellets must, however, be of an appropriate size so that the shrimp can readily carry the pellets while swimming and manipulate them with their feeding appendages. Shrimp feeds are generally manufactured in three pellet sizes as detailed below.
The feeds are generally broadcast in shrimp ponds. But in order to estimate the feed requirement of shrimp, feeding trays or feed nets are used. The ideal size of a feed net is 80cm by 80cm,it is made up of 60 – 40 mesh cloth. It is square or rounded in shape with a height of 2 inches.
