4.1.7. Selection of Centrifuge Tubes
Centrifuge tubes should prevent sample leakage or loss, ensure chemical compatibility and allow easy sample recovery. The major factors in the selection of a tube material include clarity, chemical resistance and sealing mechanism. The popular materials include polypropylene (PP), polyallomer (PA), polycarbonate (PC) and polyethylene terephtalate (PET). PP and PA tubes are opaque but have good chemical resistance, whereas PC and PET tubes are transparent but have poor chemical resistance. It is recommended to use thin-walled sealed tubes in a fixed angle or vertical rotor. |
