Fax or Facsimile

  1. 1. It is a device used fro transmission of a written document, photograph, map or any other graphic, material electronically. It is one of the variants of E-mail.
  2. For transmission, the original document placed in the facsimile or fax machine which scans the document and converts the written or graphic information into electronic signals and establishes a link up with a similar receiving fax machine at the receiving end.
  3. The receiving f machine reconverts the electronic signals into written forms.
  4. As the sending machine scans the material, the receiving machine reproduces the scanned image, which is an exact duplicate of the originals.
  5. A typical fax machine can transmits a document of A4 size in less than a minute over tjhousands of kilmeters. Since fax operates through the normal telephone lines the fax number is usually a telephone number with the same ISD, ST codes are used for sending the messages from one country to another country.
  6. The document is scanned page by page in the fax machine and it eliminates the postal delay.
  7. It is very convenient for communication between the persons located in different time zones, but it is costlier than E-mail.
