Activities for the students with GPS

Turn on the receivers and look at the satellite page.

Observe the satellite visibility picture.

Note: Make your GPS receiver free from any shadow of building or trees.

Mark your position in terms of latitude and longitude

Check your direction on the compass page.

Check your speed on the compass page. How fast are you moving? What happens to the

compass page if you stop or move slowly?

MARK a location and enter a name for this waypoint. Walk across the field and MARK a

second waypoint.

Use the GOTO function to tell you how to get from waypoint 2 to waypoint 1.

Familiarise other function available in the GPS.

If you are going with vessel fitted with GPS do the above mentioned steps and note the readings. Also cross check the position with the coastal charts of that area.
