22.2.2 Maintenance of broodstock

After collection, individuals are to be brought to the hatchery and stocked in one ton tanks. The tanks should be cleaned, disinfected and dried before stocking of the brooders. Usually 8 -10 animals will be stocked in 1 sq.m area. The bottom of the tank should be covered with mud from the natural habitat to 15 cm to allow the brooders to bury themselves. The water in the holding tanks is to be changed every morning and the mud at the bottom of the tanks every fortnight.
