Estimations in the  hatchery designing

Objective

To gain knowledge in the designing of the hatchery based on the need and emprical calculations.

Procedure

Attempt the following estimation as given below

Estimate the no. of tanks and sizes of the tanks for the shrimp hatchery based on the following considerations:

1. Species to be bred - Tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon)
2. Target - 50 million PL per annum
3. Average weight of the broodstock- 150g (female)
4. Average fecundity - 1.2 million eggs
5. Spawning rate - 95%
6. Duration of the cycle - 14 days + 2 days break
7. Stocking density - Broodstock – 1 per 2 tons of water
   • - Nauplii – 250 per litre
   • - PL 50 per litre
8. Survival rate - 35% (Nauplii to PL)
9. Feeds - Microalgae – 1.0 lakh cells/ml
   • - Artemia from PZ 3 – 1 nauplii per ml
10. Survival from PL 1 to PL 15 - 80%
