Peritoneum

PERITONEUM

  • The abdominal viscera have been removed by making an incision all round the abdominal wall across and close behind the last rib. The pelvis, hindlimbs and tail are separated in one piece from the anterior half of the body by sawing through the articulation between 1st and 2nd lumbar vertebrae.
  • The abdominal viscera should be studied now with reference to the other volumes of the lecture notes. The stomach and intestines are covered by the greater omentum. Note the general disposition of the organs. The dorsal and ventral sacs of the rumen, spleen and reticulum on the left side and on the right side note the liver, omasum, abomasum, the kidneys, small and large intestines.

  • Note the peritoneum just after reflecting the transverse abdominus muscle.
