Right ventricle

RIGHT VENTRICLE

Dissection

  • Make an incision on the right ventricle just in front of the left longitudinal groove and a transverse incision a little below and parallel to the coronary groove between the right atrium and right ventricle. Reflect the flap gently outwards.
  • Note the thick moderator band extending from the interventricular septum to the lateral wall.
  • The wall presents muscular ridges the trabeculae carneae.
  • There are three musculi papillaries, which give attachement at their apices to the chordae tendinae.
  • The chordae tendinae are fibrous cords extending from the musculi papillaries to the free edges of the cusps of the atrioventricular valves.
  • Each cusp receives chordae tendinae from two musculi papillaries.
  • Note the position of the three cusps of the Tricuspid valve, which guards the oval atrioventricular opening.
  • The pulmonary orifice is separated from the atriventricular opening by the crista supraventrucularis and is guarded by a valve composed of three semilunar cusps.
