BACKYARD CROPPING

  • This a practice of growing some fodder crops in the backyards of farmers' households mainly to meet the requirements of some of their domestic animals.
  • The dependence on field for obtaining fodder can be reduced by this practice. Fodder crops in the backyards can be grown utilizing the waste water from bathrooms, kitchen, etc.
  • Most of the cultivated fodders are suitable for this type of cropping. Perennials like guinea grass, hybrid napier and many other grasses can be grown in the backyards.
