COLLECTION OF ECTOPARASITES

  • Winged arthropods must be caught in specially designed nets and then carefully tubed
  • Care must be taken not to damage them while tubing.
  • Insects like keds, lice and fleas must be carefully brushed on to a white paper or linen and collected
  • These are small insects and except fleas are permanent parasitesĀ
  • Bugs must be sought out in crevices and holes of the animal house
  • Ticks can be collected either from the body of the animal or from the animal house, whereas mites which live in the skin can be collected only by making deep scrapings of the affected region
  • Foul smelling wounds will be invariably harbouring the dipterous larvae, which must be eitherĀ  mechanically pulled out or by making them come out by applying repellant dressings
