  • Small thick set, dark, hunch-backed flies
  • Eyes in males holoptic and in females dicoptic
  • Short stout legs
  • Anterior veins of wing thick and prominent
  • Neither scales nor hairs on wings
  • Eggs small and oval
  • Transmits Onchocerca gutturosa of cattle and Leucocytozoon of poultry
