Hippobosca maculata

  • Large leathery flies with large and strong wings, covering the abdomen when at rest
  • Head flattended and telescoped into the thorax
  • Two large eyes
  • Antennae with a single segment
  • Thorax also flattened horny and marked with yellowish spots
  • Legs short and broad and armed with powerful claws
  • The veins of the wing crowded at the anterior margin 
  • Abdomen sac like with indistinct segmentation.Ocelli wanting
