Preservation; Despatch

PRESERVATION AND DESPATCH

Preservation

  • Ticks can be preserved in their natural colours by dropping them alive into a solution of chloroform in 10% formalin
  • Chloroform is added in slight excess

Despatch

  • Ticks meant for despatch for identification should be placed inside broad mouthed bottles with few pieces of blotting paper and covered with a piece of cloth secured with rubber bands
  • On no account should such bottles be corked since the ticks often die and decompose inside tightly closed bottles
