PREPARATION

Stick or Pencils

Are solid cylindrical rods prepared by fusing drugs and pouring the mass into suitable moulds.

 Styles

Are thin bougies about two inches only for introduction into lachrymal sac and nasal cavity.

Suppositoria (Suppositories)

Are soft conical masses containing active ingredients in a suitable bas which will melt at body temperature and are intended for rectal medication. Most of them contain oil of theobroma on a few may contain glycerin. Eg: Nutrient suppository, Tannic acid suppository.

Syrupi (Syrups)

They are concentrated solution of refined sugar in water usually medicated or flavored. Eg: Syrup of acacia, Syrup of lactic acid.

Tabellae (Tablets)

Are solid discoid dosage forms of varying sie, shape and weight which may be moulded or compressed and which contain drugs in pure or diluted form .. Juist like pills tablets ae also coated with various substances. Hypodermic tablets are used for preparation of solution for hypodermic injections. Eg: Acriflavine tablets, Barbitone tablets.

Tincturae (Tinctures)

Are solutions of medicinal agents in alcohol. These may be prepared by simple solution of the drug in alcohol or by process of maceration with a portion of alcohol or by percolation. Eg: Tincture of opium, Tincture of ginger.

Trochisci or Lozenges or Troches

Are hard circular or oval disc like masses of medicinal agents consisting chiefly of active substances sugar, mucilage or fruit base intended to be slowly dissolved in the mouth. Eg: Benzoic acid lozenges, Catechu lozenges, Hall or Strepsils lozenges.

Unguenta (Ointments)

Are semisolid preparations with base ontainingeither wax, a fat or fixed oil and is intended for external application with or without friction. Eg: Boric acid ointment, Sulphur ointment.

Vapors ( Inhalations)

Are preparations containing one or more volatile ingredients which when inhaled in a suitable manner are intended to act on the throat, lungs and nasal passage. Eg: Compound cresol inhalation, Compound Eucalyptus inhalation.

Vinum (Wines)

Are solutions or suspensions of drugs in wines. Eg: Aloes wines, Iron wine, Grape wine.
