Physical incompatibility

PHYSICAL INCOMPATIBILITY

  • When a mixture of drugs gives an unsightly or elegant appearance, it is called as physical incompatibility. This may be caused by immiscibility, insolubility, undesirable colour change or molecular changes.
  • Eg: Mixture of oil and water (immiscible), calamine or zinc oxide in lotions (insoluble), mixing of ferric chloride with sodium salicylate causing production of violet colour (colour change).
