  • Actinobacillus organisms are Gram negative, nonspore forming, non-capsulated, non-motile pleomorphic rods varying from coccoid to filamentous forms.
  • The species Actinobacillus lignieresii is pathogenic to cattle, sheep, pig and man, causing caseous abscesses in cervical lymphnodes, lungs and tongue.
  • Infection in cattle is known as wooden tongue .
