Neoplasia (Tumors)

NEOPLASIA (TUMORS)

Tumorous growths have been known to occur on many different species of cartilaginous and bony fishes. Eight different histogenetic types of Neoplasia, of which the melanomas (cancer of the skin or cells producing pigments) were the most frequent. Immunologists and other research scientists have been involved in using laboratory methods to do the following:

  • Detect a possible etiological agent involved in the (cancer-producing) viruses.
  • Determine the immune response’s role in the stimulation or prevention of the neoplasm growth.
  • Regulate the proliferation of the neoplasms by the use of immune response or immunosuppressants.
