Steps to be followed during rectal palpation

STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED DURING RECTAL PALPATION

  • The animal should be restrained properly
  • The clinician should have protective full arm gloves
  • The nails of the clinician should be trimmed
  • The left arm is conventionally used for palpation
  • The hand should be lubricated with a non-irritant soap or liquid
  • The hand should be inserted into the rectum of the animal in the form of cone shape
  • The dung in the rectum should be removed to the maximum.
