PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

• Opening pressure is measured with manometer at the beginning of CSF collection. Normal values depends on body weight in kilograms. Normal pressure is 50-140 mm of H₂O. Pressure raises when there is any obstruction to flow or resorption is impaired. Obstruction is usually seen in mass lesions such as neoplasms, hematomas, granulomas. Impaired CSF resorption is seen in inflammatory process such as meningitis.
