NASAL DISCHARGE

Collection

• Collect the nasal discharge by scooping or scraping  off a little bit of growth in the nasal cavity with a scoop.
• If nasal discharge is not sufficient, nasal washing can be done by infusing normal saline and which is collected in wide mouth container.

Preservation

• It has to be preserved in a test tube containing 5 ml of 10% KOH or 5% NaOH / KOH . Unnecessary agitation of the nasal discharge has to be avoided.

Despatch

• It should be in a rubber stopper glass vial containing 5% KOH or NaOH or 2% K₂Co_3.
