Prevention of Residues

PREVENTION OF RESIDUES

  • The prevention of harmful residues in the edible tissues of our food-producing animals is the responsibility of many producers, veterinarians, professional and lay-person associations and governmental agencies.
  • All of these groups must continue to strive to regulate and utilize the drugs used to prevent or cure animal disease in a responsible manner in order to prevent accumulation of harmful amounts of residues in the food safety.
  • Especially antimicrobials should only be applied when indicated, using antibiotics directed against the causative agent(s), given in optimal dosage, dosage intervals and length of treatment with steps taken to ensure maximum concordance with the treatment regimen and only when the benefit of the treatment outweighs the inherent risks.
