DROOLING IN CAT AFTER ORAL MEDICATIONS

  • Cats will often salivate after receiving oral medications, if the medicine they were given was bitter.
  • To avoid this, if giving a pill, try to get the pill way in the back of her mouth so she will swallow it right away. The longer the pill stays in her mouth, the more she will probably salivate.
  • There are specialized pharmacies called 'compounding pharmacies' which can make different forms of medication, often just by adding flavoring.
  • The flavoring may lessen the effects of bitter medication, and reduce the salivating.
