Collection of Material

  • Tissue pieces of one cubic cm, thickness are collected from organs showing gross morbid changes along with normal area.
  • To avoid interchanging of specimens, identification number has to be given.
  • Specimens are examined by pathologist and description is noted down.

Logging of Specimen

  • A portion of tissue is trimmed (block) and used for further processing.
  • The block with identification number is transferred into container having fresh fixative.
  • The tissue from containers are transferred into capsules for further processing.
  • For bones and calcified tissues , decalcification is required before being processed.
