2. Principle

In the presence of selenium dioxide as catalyst, concentrated sulphuric acid oxidized the proteinaceous nitrogen to ammonium sulphate. The concentration of ammonia is finally estimated as per the indopheno blue method as for total sedimentary organic nitrogen.
