Unit 14 - Glass containers and Closures
14.1.13.3.Lug cap
Lug cap is a variation of a screw cap and operates on much the same principle. The lugs usually three or four are equally spaced on the periphery and engage on the corresponding lugs moulded on the bottle finish. By turning in a clockwise direction, sealing pressure is obtained as with normal screw cap by turning the caps by 900. This type of closures is used when powders or viscous liquids such as instant coffee or jams are packed. When the product is sometimes board or vacuum packed, laminated paper gets sucked inwards.
