Gill
Histological analysis of gill reveals the presence of following cells and tissues. Basement membrane, central blood spaces, chloride cells, epithelial cells, pillar cells, proximal channel. The epithelium covering the gills of teleost consists of unspecialized epithelial cell required for gaseous exchange and chloride and mucous cells specialized for physiological function. As the epithelium is constantly regenerating the normal histology of gill includes a small number of vacuolated cells undergoing normal degeneration or apoptosis. The thickness of the diffusion surface ranges from0.5 to μm. |
