11.1.11 Genotypic value

Genotype is the particular assemblage of genes possessed by an individual.

  • Genotypic value is attributable to the influence of the genotype. The genotype of the individual confers certain value to the individual, which is called the genotypic value. In principle, it is not, except when we are concerned with a single or a few loci where the genotypes are distinguishable.
  • Considering one locus with two alleles, A1 and A2 there will be 3 genotypes.
  • The genotypic value of A1A1, A1A2, A2A2 are a, d and -a, respectively. It is the convention that A1 genotype has the highest and A2A2 has the lowest value.
