13.1.11.2. Independent culling

Independent culling is probably the easiest selective breeding programme that a farmer can use to improve two or three phenotypes. It is a breeding programme where a farmer selects simultaneously for two or more phenotypes by establishing cut-off values for each phenotype independent of the other(s), and each fish must reach or exceed all cut-off values in order to be saved. A fish which fails one cut-off value is culled.
