5.5.3 Larval mycosis in shrimps

Affected larvae appear opaque followed by sudden mortality. Larval stages are highly susceptible. The infection is caused by Lagenidium sp. Sirolpidium sp. and Haliphthoros sp. These are filamentous non-septate and coenocytic fungi. Once infected the larval mycelium ramifies into various parts of the body. Fusarium also causes infection in penaeid shrimps. Black gill disease of larvae is caused by Fusarium. Other fungi viz. Saprolegnia and Leptolegnia also cause dark necrotic lesions on shrimp exoskeleton and cause gradual mortality.
