Slide culture of fungi is done most frequently in Sabouraud’s agar which is a simple medium consisting of 1% peptone, 4% glucose and 2% agar-agar. The pH of the medium is adjusted to 5.6 to inhibit bacterial growth. Alternatively, other mycological agars or C.W. Emmons agar (glucose 2%, neo-peptone 1%, pH 6.8 – 7.0, chloramphenicol at 40 mg/l) is also used.
