1.1.1 Population

Population is usually defined as aggregates of individuals of the same species, inhabiting a well defined geographical area. Such population gets cut off from another discrete population of the same species through a discontinuity between their distributional ranges. A population can be considered a unit stock if its members exhibit sufficiently uniform characteristics in respect of their growth, spawning, natural mortality, response to fishing, morphometry, meristic counts, serological properties etc.
