Hazards during late childhood

  • Health Problems: Chronic health ailments like T.B., Pneumonia etc will hinder the child’s motor abilities.

  • Accidents: School age children are more adventurous in nature, they run fast, play hard, ride bicycles and scooters and engage in a variety of sports. Accidents and injuries also cause delay in motor abilities.

  • Sickness and injuries keep away the children from their daily routines.

  • Physical Impairments: Blind children are slower to develop motor skills – walking, climbing or manipulating objects. Physical impaired children have poor balance and equilibrium.

  • Diseases: The common childhood diseases are chicken pox, measles, mumps and polio. The most common disease during late childhood period is Chicken pox. Measles is the most contagious disease. Mumps is a viral disease typically found in 5-9 yrs children. Polio is caused due to viral infection.
