The Anal stage (18 months to 3 years)

• In this stage the source of tension and gratification moves to the Anus.
  
• The child gets gratification in eliminating or withholding faeces.
  
• This is also the stage where the parent begins to toilet train the child and this leads to conflict between parents and children.
