Fixation

It is a failure of development in which the individual continues to seek particular gratification even after passing that stage in which that pleasure is normally sought.

When a person is fixated at any of the earlier stages, the following characteristics in his/her personality can surface.

  1. Oral stage: Optimistic, Dependent, Generous, Demanding and Sarcastic
  2. Anal stage: Orderly, Frugal, Punctual, Obstinate, Rebellious
  3. Phallic stage: Proud, Self-assured, Vain, Timid and Bashful
