The emphasis in design can be obtained by both structural features as well as decorative means. The edges in the garments offer most exquisite points to create centre of attraction; skirt or shirt hemline to emphasize legs, sleeve hems for arms and wrists, necklines for face and neck and salwar or churidar pyjama’s lower hemline for foot, etc. The other structural means for creating emphasis is by exposing body parts usually covered or by covering the parts usually kept covered.
The unusual seam lines and draped features are effective in creating the emphasis. All types of trims used for surface enrichment in garments create effective focal points in design particularly when plain background fabric exists. Jewellery, brooches, buttons; ribbons (Fig.10.4) are most expressive in creating emphasis in garment.
