The functions of Sodium ion are:
- Regulates acid-base balance of the body
- Regulates osmotic pressure of plasma and tissue fluids which protects the body against excessive fluid loss;
- Keeps calcium and other minerals soluble in the blood, as well as stimulating the adrenal glands.
- Helps in absorption of monosaccharide and amino acids from small intestine.
- Initiates and maintains the heart beat.
