Weft knitted fabrics are also referred to as filling, circular and tubular knits. Weft knitting has one set of yarn which only travels horizontally across the fabric. From the weaving terminology the terms weft knit and filling knit are derived. They can be made on either circular or flatbed machines. The major characteristics of weft knits are that they can be either fully fashioned or cut to shirts through beefy T -shirts to heavy winter sweaters.
There are three fundamental stitches in weft knitting

  1. Plain-knit stitch
  2. Purl knit stitch
