Steps involved in planning a diet

There are three steps involved in planning a menu.

Step – I To know the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA)
To calculate balanced diet, the first step is to know RDA for different age groups recommended by Nutrition Expert Committee of ICMR.

Step – II To know the food lists

  1. Use ICMR tables
  2. Use Exchange lists

Step – III Planning menu

  1. Purchasing
    • Seasonal foods
    • Reasonable cost
    • Good Quality
  2. Preparation
    • Hygiene
    • Minimum nutrient loss
  3. Presentation / Serving
    • Attractive
    • Fresh
    • Hot( few)
    • Cold( few)
