Lesson 1: Communication of Information

Introduction

As you are already aware extension education is an out of school type of education where farmers and farm women acquire information which they can use to make decisions in their daily lives. Information is vital for rural development and information has value only when it is successfully communicated. If information cannot be understood then that information has no value.

It is in this context that communication assumes importance. Communication is a very important aspect of extension education because extension is effective only when communication is effective. Effective communication takes place when the sender and the receiver are in tune with one another. This means the receiver receives the message intended by the sender or the receiver understands exactly what the sender wants to tell.
