Parenteral Feeding

Parenteral feeding is given through the central vein

It should give sufficient calories and all amino acids include non essential ones. Fat should be included with both linoleic and linolenic acids but should not give more than 30% of total calories. Monitoring is important.

  1. In India a large number of girls are married at an early age and most of them or their spouses do not know or practice contraception. Thus adolescent pregnancy is a common feature.
  2. Nourishing a growing fetus adds to a teenagers nutrition burden, especially as her own growth is incomplete.
  3. 4-5 years after menarche the girl is biologically mature to be a mother. However most girls are nutritionally not equipped for pregnancy.
  4. Pregnancy at this age jeopardizes the health of both mother and child.
