Parts of a Video Camera

Look at the labelled parts of the video camera in Figs 2.1(a) and (b). All cameras necessarily have these parts, though some advanced models have other features, which will be discussed later. But let us first look at the basic features of the camera, which are

  • Microphone
  • Lens hood
  • Aperture ring (iris)
  • Focus ring
  • Zoom ring
  • Manual zoom control
  • White balance, black balance
  • Gain control
  • Colour compensation filter.
  • Viewfinder, brightness/contrast controls
  • Tally light (indicates if the camera is recording)
  • Camera back VTR connector, video output, camera cable, monitor video output, genlock connection
  • Battery pack
  • Audio input controls
  • LCD monitor/viewfinder
  • Auto/manual on/off
  • We shall discuss some of these below.
