Lesson 16: Elements of Video Production: Editing

Introduction

Video editing is similar to editing and designing a publication to give it shape and form with good content. We write the content (shoot the rushes), edit the copy (arrange video and audio in a comprehendible manner), and design (add special effects, balance and sweeten audio, add graphics/titles), and print the publication (publish it on tape or a CD/DVD). Video editing is one of the most important phases in single-camera postproduction. We may have the best of rushes on tape, but unless the rushes are 'well organized' into a programme, they remain useless. In this lesson we will learn about different aspects of video editing.
