Definition

A pod cast is “a pre recorded audio program data posted to a website and is made available for download people can listen to them on personal computers or mobile devices”. It describes the process of using audio files to deliver syndicated web site content to a digital audience.

Basically in podcasting, you create audio files that are available on your website which people can then download to their ipods or MP3 players and listen to pod casts are delivered through RSS(Rich Site Summary) feeds; users subscribe to various podcasts which are then checked regularly for updated.

Advantages

  1. Available anytime/anywhere for students.
  2. Easy to create, distribute and download-no professional equipment is required.
  3. New podcasts are auto-downloaded.
  4. Can restrict podcasts to students enrolled in the course.
  5. Power of audio over text-students can listen and learn while walking, riding, waiting in like etc.,

Disadvantages

  1. Entire file downloaded to students computer/device.
  2. Need sufficient band width to download the podcasts in a timely fashion.
  3. No interactivity-audience cannot participate etc.,
  4. Intellectual property issues
