Meaning and Definitions

Public relations as a multidisciplinary profession are highly essential to all management functions-from finance, human resources, production to marketing. Therefore its importance has grown all over the world in all economic, social and political spheres.

According to Edward l.Bernays Public Relations is the attempt by information, persuasion and adjustment to engineer public support for an activity, cause, movement or information.

According to Griswold – The management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or an organization with public interest and executes a programme of action to learn understanding and acceptance.

According to Dr.C.V. Narsimha Reddy “Public Relations is the management of two-way communication process between an organization and its public to promote the corporate mission, services, products, reputation and gain public understanding”.

The British Institute of Public Relations defined P.R practice as “deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain mutual understanding between and organization and its public”.
