Types Of Foundations

Foundations May be Broadly classified under two heads:

Shallow Foundations:
When the foundation is placed immediately beneath the lowest part of the super structure, it is called shallow foundation. The aim of this type of foundation is to distribute the structural loads over a considerable horizontal area near the surface. A foundation where its depth is equal to or less than its width, then it is called as shallow foundation. Different types of shallow foundations are discussed below.

Types of Shallow Foundation:

  1. Spread footing
  2. Combined footings
  3. Strap Footings
  4. Raft Foundation (Mat Foundation)
